TIMBER COVE COTTAGE

Timber Cove Cottage is one of Lake Lure’s most historic and scenic lakefront homes, with features dating back to the 1930’s. You will be captivated by the nearly 2 acres of beautifully landscaped stone terraces, walkways, and fire pit area. The wonderful outdoor spaces continue with an inviting roof-top deck, overlooking Timber Cove, Lake Lure and surrounding mountains. The home has been meticulously restored and updated while maintaining the original “lake cottage” layout and feel. Professionally managed, cleaned, and sanitized linen service. 3 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms. Sleeps up to 8.
NOTE: . The plan for the next Lake Drawdown is 1/1/24 - 3/31/24.
The Lake will be drawn down by 12 feet. The purpose of the Lake drawdown is to allow for the completion of priority infrastructure projects including the sewer system replacement project including the Gravity Lift System (GLS) in the North end of Sunset Cove, dredging, seawall and boathouse construction/maintenance, dam and hydroelectric plant maintenance, and sewer cleaning and maintenance.
While the Lake will begin rising on March 31st, 2024, the rate of refilling the Lake is based on the weather and rainfall received.

MAIN LEVEL: Timber Cove Cottage features an open Main Level floor plan with Great Room and fully equipped, updated kitchen with a double oven, and both drip and Keurig coffee makers. Walk-out from the Main Level directly onto a spacious Rooftop Deck and Stone Patios. A bright, airy Sunroom adjacent to the Great Room has dining table with bench seating+two chairs and a Queen sleeper-sofa. An additional 4 dining seats at the Kitchen island. Great Room has gas fireplace (Oct 1-April 1), flat screen Smart TV , and Sonos speaker, and another queen sleeper-sofa. Great Room, Deck and Sunroom have views overlooking Lake Lure. Rooftop Deck has Gas grill (we supply propane), dining table for 6, covered outdoor seating area and 2 lounge chairs. Main Level Bedroom has 1 King bed and private balcony. NOTE: Main Level Bathroom is accessed by walking through the Bedroom. One flight of stone stairs takes you down from Parking area to Main Entrance. Parking for 3+ vehicles. If negotiating stairs are an issue for anyone in your group, you may want to consider a different property.


LOWER LEVEL has two Bedrooms and a full Bath. It’s an unconventional layout, which is part of the charm of a vintage lakefront cottage: Walk down the stairs directly into a Bedroom with 1 King Bed and flat screen Smart TV. Walk through the King Bedroom into the second Bedroom with a Queen Bed. The Lower Level Bathroom is accessed by walking through both Bedrooms. Lower Level walks out to the large Dock area, Pond and path to the Fire pit area.

Use of Lakefront Dock, 2 Kayaks, 1 SUP. Stone steps from dock into the lake for easy access

Wood Burning Outdoor Fire pit (firewood can be bought locally)

Your stay at Timber Cove Cottage includes Damage Protection that covers up to $3,000 in damage. See complete terms and conditions in our rental agreement. YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO PURCHASE DAMAGE PROTECTION INSURANCE AT CHECK OUT THROUGH VRBO OR OTHER PROVIDER.

All reservations, including VRBO/Airbnb are REQUIRED to sign a RENTAL AGREEMENT. The Rental Agreement is sent in a separate email for e-signature. VRBO guests, we will not process your credit card for the deposit until after you sign the rental agreement.

If you book through HOMEAWAY/VRBO, they charge a SERVICE FEE. This fee is NOT paid to Buffalo Junction Properties.

  Timber Cove Cottage is a historic gem nestled on the shores of Lake Lure. My husband and I stayed there for 4 nights and loved it. The cottage and grounds are impeccably maintained, with marvelous stonework and landscaping. The cottage is spacious and well-appointed with modern appliances and amenities. It is located just a few minutes' drive from the charming town of Chimney Rock, as well as a grocery store and area restaurants. Our hosts were friendly and responsive, even checking in with us after a big storm knocked out power to the whole area. We will definitely stay there again.

  Had a wonderful week here! The house, the VIEW and the refreshing lake were all incredible. House was very clean and had all the amenities you could possibly need. The stairs and steps throughout the property could definitely be a challenge for some but that is pointed out in the description. A railing down by the steps leading into the water is definitely needed for safety purposes. Overall, I would highly recommend this property. Simply wonderful!

  From beginning to end, this was the perfect action for our family of 4. Kathleen and the folks at BJP were always quick to respond and delightful to work with. The property is everything we hoped for and more. Charming, well-maintained, comfy beds, well-stocked kitchen and so many things to explore on the property and on the water. We loved the kayaks and paddle board. We were fascinated by the "mystery" of the neighboring property and its boathouse. The location on the lake is centralized and being just off the main channel in a private cove was perfection. We had the cove to ourselves which was so surprising given it was high season. We caught lots of fish in the cove too. The hydrangea, trees, flowers and stonework were stunningly beautiful. We even saw a brown bear down near the fire pit! I highly recommend this property. We cannot wait to return.

  Two generations of our family (Boomers + Millennials!)were enchanted with Timbercove, especially the outdoors spaces like the private cove, woodland walkway and firepit area and the spacious deck right over the lake with a view of Buffalo Mountain. The layout of the public rooms (kitchen and the two family rooms) was conducive to connection and conversation.   Timbercove cottage is a beautiful lakefront retreat nestled in the hillside on beautiful Lake Lure. The home was meticulously cleaned ,is beautifully furnished and has a well equipped kitchen. There are lake views from nearly every room in the house. The outdoor living space has plenty of comfortable seating for taking in the amazing views. We utilized the kayak and SUP that were provided in the boathouse and rented a pontoon boat from a nearby marina. We loved spending time on the lake; and having the boat delivered directly to our dock was so convenient. Getting groceries was easy as there is a full service grocery store nearby ( groceries/pharmacy/gas). There are also a handful of restaurants around Lake Lure to choose from. Overall, I would highly recommend Timbercove Cottage ( so much so... that we stayed an extra night!) Thanks to Sue and Steve Gage from Buffalo Junction Properties. You were very helpful and quick to respond to communication. We hope to return again.

  We had a wonderful vacation on Lake Lure and enjoyed many of the areas attractions. TimberCove was very well equipped and a lovely location tucked into the corner of a cove off the main lake but very accessible. We enjoyed Chimney Rock, tubing and horseback riding and close proximity to the grocery store with everything was a bonus. The only negative was the location of both bathrooms at the back of each bedroom. Thank you for a great week!

  Cabin was very clean, location excellent with lake and mountain view. Very nice, big porch. Very close to the supermarket. We absolutely loved this cabin. This is our 8th summer vacation at the lake and this was the best place we rented. One small issue is that you have to go through 2 bedrooms to get to the bathroom, which is inconvenient especially at night when everyone is sleeping, but it was worth it. Perfect place.

  This home and property is a dream! We have rented many homes on Lake Lure, and this one is by far the best we've experienced. The home is super comfortable and has multiple outdoor spaces to spread out and enjoy. Work a jigsaw puzzle in the sunroom with a gorgeous view. Relax waterside on the upper or lower deck. Splash around the cove or paddle out to the channel and take it all in. The home's location can't be beat. Very close to grocery and downtown. The bathrooms (one on each level) are accessed through bedrooms, but that's a quirk of a charming, historic home. Steve and Sue Gage were great to work with. Seamless reservation/check-in/check-out with quick communication. We made some wonderful family memories at Timbercove Cottage!

  Our family had an amazing week at TimberCove. Sue and Steve were incredibly communicative, accessible and accommodating. The grounds are sprawling and well maintained, and we enjoyed every inch of the property. We really enjoyed the comforts of the deck and the sounds of waterfalls, and found the cove to be on one of the prettiest spots on the lake. We spent countless hours fishing, paddling and floating and appreciated all of the space on the dock. The inside was impeccably clean, with all the comforts of home. Wi-fi access was upgraded during our stay, which was a pleasant surprise! We appreciated the privacy of the property, but were excited to be so close to both town and the grocery store. We adore Lake Lure - although we have stayed at other properties on the lake, it will be TimberCove that we return to in the future. Thanks again for your hospitality!

  Lake Lure in May is perfect, gentle and peaceful. Timbercove at Lake Lure is about as sweet as it gets. It's relaxing, both inside and outside - all elements work in harmony.
